Booking an Appointment
Office hours: 8am – 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Please always ring the office to make an appointment. We try to be as flexible as possible. If you wish to request a specific vet or morning/lunchtime/afternoon we will try to accommodate you (please try to give us a few days notice in this case). We only make specific timed appointments in advance if a third party is involved, e.g. a farrier, physiotherapist etc. On the morning of your appointment please ring the office 8-9am and we will give you a time window for the visit, usually one hour, – also the vets are always happy to give you a ring when they are on their way. Outside office hours please always ring the surgery – the number of the vet on call will be on the answer phone.

Paying the vet promptly
We try to do our best for our patients and clients. We consider that we provide a prompt, reliable service with 24-hour emergency rapid attendance and excellent customer care. In return we appreciate prompt payment. We send out accounts at the end of every month. Each invoice is checked, but if you have a query, just call. We hope that you will agree that we charge fairly and appropriately. We appreciate that the odd invoice is lost or forgotten, or that you have been away. We send reminders the following month. However, if you have not paid by then or you have not “got round” to getting an insurance claim form to us, we will ring you up; and start charging you interest at 2.5% per month until full payment is received; and become wary of providing anything but emergency work. We will also charge an overdue account administration fee of £25 plus VAT. So, if you are dissatisfied with the service we provide, please do not hesitate in letting us know – so we can address the problem and improve our service.
“Beat the VAT, Beat the Rise ....”
Believe it or not, Mayes and Scrine have not increased our fees for three years. Admittedly, increasing them now is bad timing, but we are afraid it has to be done:
However, what with the recession and all, we have come up with a cunning plan:
The increased prices of common procedures, visits and consultations will be rounded up or down to the nearest pound to try and make “payment at the time” quicker. In the case of more complex procedures, if you have told the vet that you wish to pay at the time, the office will contact you within one working day once the procedure has been priced. We will need a reliable contact number and payment in this circumstance will need to be on a credit or debit card. Contrary to previous policy, we now encourage electronic payment.
The prompt-payment 5% discount scheme will apply at least until the issue of the next newsletter – quite a while knowing the frequency that we produce these things! (We have done 17 now though, all on our website – Ed).
Should you wish to make an electronic transfer, our account details (sort code, account number etc) are available from our office. Please use a horse name or your surname in the reference number (otherwise, knowing who the payment is from is very difficult). We would like to send receipts for remote payment electronically, so we would like your email address.
